Practice
The small returning things are the ones that hold the life.
What to do every day. What to do once a year. What to carry. What to ignore.
11:11 is a real practice. It just isn't what people say it is.
The number doesn't mean anything. The pause means everything.
Compliment one person every day. Make it specific.
Not because they need it. Because of what it does to you.
Go to Mass occasionally. Even if you're not Catholic.
One tradition's seriousness about the divine can deepen yours.
I stopped drinking at 30.
A clear-eyed audit, not a sobriety crusade. The drink wasn't the variable. The structure was.
Pick one stone. Know why.
Not for healing. For commitment.
Silence. Five minutes. No app.
The thing every meditation app is selling you a worse version of.
Sound baths and how to tell which ones work.
Most of them don't. Here's what you're listening for.
Tarot isn't prediction. Here's what it is.
Stop asking it what's going to happen. Start asking it what's already true.
The annual review beats resolutions.
Looking back is the practice. Looking forward is the byproduct.
The single object you carry.
Not jewelry. Not a talisman. An anchor.
Walking is not slow running.
One is for the body. The other is for the rest of you.
What the Cows Know
On a drive between Houston and Austin, I passed a field where the cows were lying down. Almost all of them. A whole herd, settled into the grass like they'd decided something together.
Why I write down what I want and carry it with me.
Most of what people call wanting something doesn't survive a folded page in pen.
